The NHL is Nearing a Comeback, and We Have Futures Odds for You

Sports leagues around the country and around the world are setting themselves up for resuming to action. The COVID-19 pandemic has paused or postponed many seasons and will force leagues to be creative in their solutions for safely playing games in this environment we currently live in.

And the major leagues in the US are doing exactly that. The NHL paused their season on the 12th of March, but hockey will be back, and we already know the return-to-play format, and thus, have odds for you for the first playoff matchups!

Read on to find out what the rest of the NHL season will look like, and what type of futures investments are currently available.

What will the rest of the NHL season look like?

The NHL will be back in action with a 24-team tournament format. There will be a qualifying round where 16 teams participate in a best-of-five series for a place in the playoffs.

The top four teams from each conference advance directly to the first round of the playoffs. This means that the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, St. Louis Blues, Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, and the Edmonton Oilers are already in.

For the qualifying round, the number 5 seeds from each conference will face the number 12 seeds, the number 6 seeds match up against the number 11 seeds, and so on. The winner of the best-of-five series will advance to the first round of playoffs and meet their top-seeded team in a best-of-seven series, and the playoffs continue normally.

This should be an exciting format for NHL fans with plenty of stakes on the line for most teams in the league.

The details for where and when this will happen are yet to be ironed out. The NHL is looking to play the games in a “hub city”, much like the NBA is doing with their return happening on a single site in Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida.

The return date is not yet set, and the league still needs to finalize the details of their health and safety protocol for games. But team facilities are opening up, and players are returning to train with their teammates. We should have hockey back in our lives sooner rather than later.
