The Sports Trader Sounds Off

What a crazy messed up world we are living in right now. Riots in the streets, coronavirus still out there, and murder hornets in the sky; you honestly could not make this stuff up. In fact, if someone handed you a book 6 months ago with all of this going on in it, you would read a few chapters and put the book down and say “this is too unrealistic to continue reading.”

But wait, there’s more!

We are just a few months away from the start of election season where we get to watch a 74 year old gameshow host slug it out with a 76 year old with dementia.

These are easily the funniest and scariest times in our lives. One day you will look in the dictionary and look up the term “volatility” and there will just be a photo of 2020.

Speaking of volatility, I have a few friends who are killing it in the stock market, but I have a bunch of others that are getting their butts kicked. I keep telling everyone that as soon as sports start back up again, you need to shift some of your investments into sports trading. My models were up 240% last year, and I am looking forward to killing it again this year.

I did finally make the decision, and I am going to do it… Our VIP alerts package will be available for the first time ever this year, starting with baseball. I have been getting email after email from you guys thanking me for the free tips and asking when you can have more.

Well, more is on the way, and it will be here soon.

As far as baseball goes, it seems like negotiations are really heating up between the players union and the owners. I have to be honest though, if we don’t see a deal done by the end of this week, it becomes harder and harder to see one getting done at all.

We have to really hope that these protests don’t cause a spike in the virus, or it could really throw a wrench into everything.

Money, of course, will make the final decision for both sides, but they are walking a tedious tightrope here. I personally believe that if they don’t make a deal and the season is canceled, that they will lose millions of fans.

Sports is something that people actually really need right now. Any touch of normalcy would help.

I am going to close out this week’s newsletter by talking about a pet peeve of mine. I see a lot of people complaining that players, coaches and organizations have not made statements about the protest.

I also see a lot of ESPN personalities dedicating multiple segments to it on TV.

I could not disagree with any of it any more.

Sports is a safe haven. It’s the one place we can tune out the rest of the world and not care if someone is blue or red. White or black. Sports has no color and has no political affiliation, and it should stay that way.

I have no problem with these players who have not made a public statement because some opinions are better left to themselves. No one should feel compelled to do something they are not comfortable with or take a strong stance on something they don’t feel strongly about because the mob insists they do.

Or if they do feel strongly, and they prefer to keep their opinion to themselves, they should be allowed to do so, without feeling pressure.

Wanna know what I think about the George Floyd situation? Of course you don’t. So I will keep it to myself.

Be safe out there. Wear a mask, and take care of the people you love.

Until next time,

The Sports Trader
